Musical Director – Karen Beer

Karen gained a degree at the Royal College of Music, London and her PGCE teaching certificate at Roehampton University.  After becoming Head of Music in a Middle School in Stanmore, she moved to Bedfordshire with her family. Karen has taught in Bedfordshire since 1998, originally for the Music Service but now as an independent teacher working in the east of the county at Samuel Whitbread Upper, Alban Academy, Edward Peake Middle and Sutton Lower Schools.

Karen teaches piano, singing, oboe, theory of music, recorder and conducts East Bedfordshire Youth Choir, Samuel Whitbread Chamber Choir, Alban Academy choir, Sutton Lower school choir, Ampthill Choral Society and Biggleswade Choral Society.  In her spare time, she occasionally plays oboe in local orchestras when needed and sings with East Bedfordshire Chamber Choir and Locrian Chamber Choir.

Karen has recently qualified to become a Vocal Health First Aider.  This means that she has:
 
  • An understanding of vocal health and the factors that can affect vocal wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the signs of a range of vocal dysfunction and imbalance
  • Knowledge to help someone towards recovery by guiding them in self-management, or passing them on to further support, whether that is specialist vocal rehabilitation coaching or clinical treatment
  • An understanding of how to prevent vocal health issues from occurring in the workplace.
